Portadown College have offered sign language classes for many years but these were unable to continue during the periods of remote learning. However, we are delighted that we have been able to restart these classes for even greater numbers in this new academic year.
On Wednesday afternoons our sixth form students have access to a wide programme of sporting and enrichment activities, entitled ‘PC Connect’ which enable them to participate in the five steps to wellbeing. As part of this programme, a group of thirty students have started the Introduction to British Sign Language Level 1 qualification, and are pictured with their tutor Mr Stephen Keery.
The start of the course is very timely with The International Week of Deaf People being celebrated during the last full week of September.
